About
Shore Chef

Shore Chef was founded in 2020 by Charles and Courtney O’Brien with the aim of meeting a need they saw in the New Jersey shore communities. Charles grew up in Ireland and France, and spent his summer holidays in Portugal. Courtney grew up in South Jersey and spent every summer at her family’s shore house in Ocean City, New Jersey. Shore Chef combines European-style dining with a Jersey shore vacation and became an instant hit during its inaugural 2021 season, which saw it featured on the front page of Atlantic City’s Flavor magazine.

Charles and his team prepared a delicious meal for a family gathering in Ocean City. Charles was extremely communicative and able to accommodate our group with short notice. Do I even have the words to describe how much we loved this? We hired Shore Chef for a girls weekend in Avalon, New Jersey. Charles was so easy to coordinate with, and didn’t flinch when we had to change our time to accommodate some other plans. We had the Halibut, rice, salad, asparagus and charcuterie and everything was divine. Gavin was amazing, polite, warm, and focused. Will definitely use them again and highly recommend you reach out. FAQs

What is Shore Chef's footprint?

As of November 9th, 2024, Shore Chef operates on the Main Line as well as the South Jersey Shore. Please contact us at [email protected] if you have any further questions.

Do you do gift cards?

If you would like to gift a private chef, please reach out to [email protected]. We would be happy to create a custom physical or digital gift card for you. The recipient can choose the date, menu option, and add additional guests upon receipt.

What if someone in the party wants something else?

For all bookings, we are happy to do a combination of two protein options combined with two sides that pair well with both. If you wish to do so, add a note in the dietary requirements or send us an email—there is no additional charge.

Can I substitute sides with those on another menu option?

Of course! If you would like to change a side or salad option, just let us know in the allergies/dietary requirements box when booking, or send us an email at [email protected].

Can I add or subtract numbers?

We can certainly add guests or issue a refund if someone cannot make it. We do require at least a week’s notice prior to your booking date to facilitate changes.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations made at least 7 days in advance are fully refundable.

Can I book for less than 6 people?

We are currently taking bookings for a minimum of 6 guests. If there are fewer than 6 in your party, our chef will be happy to set aside the remaining meals for you to enjoy in the following days.

Are Shore Chef chefs bonded and insured?

All of our chefs are bonded, insured, and ServSafe® certified!

How long will the chef take to prepare the meal?

Our chef will arrive approximately 2 hours prior to your booking time. If the menu selection or add-ons require additional time, you will be notified via email at least 2 days before booking.

What if some in my party want different desserts?

Not a problem—just let us know in the Allergies/Dietary Restrictions box how many of each dessert you would like!

What cooking equipment do I need?

Our chef will require standard cooking pots and pans, as well as serving dishes. Any specialty equipment will be brought by the chef. Anything used will be cleaned and returned before departure.

What if someone in my party has allergies?

Our chefs will be happy to omit any ingredients due to customer allergies or dietary restrictions.

Do I need to tip the chef?

Our chefs strive to provide exceptional service and experience. Gratuities are greatly appreciated and it is customary to tip a percentage of the bill, as one would at a restaurant.

When do I have to book by?

Currently, Shore Chef is only taking bookings at least 7 days in advance. We are aiming to reduce this time frame in the coming months.

Can I adjust how spicy a dish will be?

If a dish contains any spice, our chef can tailor the recipe accordingly. If someone wants more of a kick, we are happy to leave additional spices on the side.

What are Shore Chef's Covid protocols?

At Shore Chef, we take the safety of both our clients and chefs very seriously. Our chefs are fully vaccinated and will wear masks at your request.

Do you do custom menus?

Shore Chef does offer a bespoke option. If you would like to inquire, please contact us at [email protected].

What areas does Shore Chef currently serve?

Shore Chef is currently operational from Long Beach Island down through Cape May. If you are outside of this area, please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate.

Do we need to provide a parking spot?

We ask that you provide a parking space at the address of service; if this is not possible, please let us know and we will make alternative arrangements.

What if I do not have a rental secured yet?

If you would like to make a booking but have not yet confirmed a rental, do not worry—as bookings can be adjusted or cancelled up to a week before the booked date.

Will the chefs clean up when finished?

Our chefs will clean all work surfaces and any equipment used before leaving you to enjoy your dinner with friends and family in the comfort of your home.

What is the maximum number of guests?
